Maribel Guzman is a senior at the University of Illinois majoring in Food Science and Human Nutrition. Her concentration is food science and is looking to pursue a career in the food chemistry/food engineering area. She is intrigued by the idea of being able to change components in food and apply different methods in such a way to create different results. Maribel started working at the FSHN-PPP and IBRL in March of 2018. Working here, she knew it would be a great opportunity for her to get hands on experience on the processing of foods and to learn to operate and gain knowledge on pilot and lab scale equipment. She spent the summer of 2018 here doing several different projects in both facilities. She spent the summer of 2019 interning at The Kraft Heinz Company as a Manufacturing Management Intern. She hopes this experience of interning at the IBRL and FSHN-PPP further opens up opportunities for her after graduation. Maribel’s goal is to have a job lined up in her area of study after graduation in May 2020.
