Jessie Yang is a sophomore at the University of Illinois majoring in Food Science and Human Nutrition and concentrating in food science. She is looking to pursue a career in the food industry, specifically in Quality insurance or Research and development. Jessie developed a passion for food science when she got to tour a Kraft Heinz pilot plant in Glenview. She was astounded by all the science and engineering that went into creating and improving the taste a food product and she knew then she wanted to a be part of the process. Jessie started working at the FSHN-PPP and IBRL in March of 2018 and spent the summer working at both facilities on various food processing projects. In addition to getting hands-on experience in food processing, she learned a lot about working with and maintaining lab equipment. She hopes to get an internship for summer 2019 and enter into the food industry right when she graduates. Eventually, her goal is to get a Ph.D. and become a professor in Food Science.
