Applexion™ SC-6 Sequential Simulated Moving Bed Chromatography Pilot

July 29, 2025 by neonmoth

Description

Pilot scale multi-column chromatography skid for binary separation; performs the continuous separation of two compounds or the binary fractionation of complex mixtures.

Includes control panel to set process variables, monitor status, and make adjustments; heated process tanks, one for eluent and one for feed; six separation columns that can be valved off individually. In operation, columns can be closed off to control the conditions of columns and maintain consistent temperature. Once parameters are established, skid can run unattended for long periods of time until the separation is completed.

SSMB allows for extremely effective, efficient chromatography. It uses a small amount of water and waste, which translates to a reduced amount of input (cost, electricity) while resulting in a pure product.

This is a technology of choice for large-scale purification processes of food or biotech product commodities, currently used on the commercial scale with systems installed at some of the world’s largest sweetener producers:

  • Efficient : High purity fractions.
  • Green process : No effluents or chemical consumption.
  • Cost-effective : Very low operating cost, mostly electrical energy for water/eluent recycling.
  • Productive : Operating in continuous 24/7/365.

From R&D to plant start-up and beyond, Applexion™ SC offers a one-stop shop for all your chromatography projects: optimization of well-established applications as well as development of efficient purification processes for new products.

FROM THE MANUFACTURER:

Applexion has a strategic partnership with IBRL at the University of IL for Process Development & Scale-up @ IBRL pilot-scale biomanufacturing facility.

A step-by-step approach

  • to test and derisk your purification process
  • to benchmark solutions available
  • to help transition quickly from early-stage projects to industrial applications (shortening time to market)
  • to produce novel food and functional ingredients, bio-based materials, and more
